Love Your Enemies

But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you. Luke 6:27-28

There are 3 types of enemies:

1. Those who hate you.
This is speaking about those with a hateful attitude towards you. Hateful attitudes can be sensed and felt. A young child is capable of sensing hate from a person even though they don't say a word. In the same way, an attitude of love can also be felt. A hateful attitude is the nature of the devil. Love can close the door to this nature.

2. Those who curse you or slander you.
This is speaking about those that say hateful words. Curse is beyond attitude, now it becomes verbal. Curse: calling doom and destruction on someone's head. Cursing is going beyond a hateful attitude to using hateful words.

3. Those who physically persecute you.
This is speaking about those who do hateful deeds - physically attacking, torturing you.

Jesus has given us to solution to the problems of our enemies: LOVE. However, our thinking of love is that it must be emotional - "how I can love my enemies if I don't feel the love for them? I can't love my enemies." But Jesus' love is willful - we must choose to willfully love our enemies.

How do we love our enemies?

1. Do good to them.
Embedded in us is the goodness of God. Start doing good to our enemies, find out what needs they have and help them by doing good.

2. Bless those who curse you.
Blessing is the opposite of cursing. Our words have power. Stop speaking the negative, stop cursing another person. Start looking at and talking about the positive, start speaking blessing on others.

3. Pray for those who persecute you.
When you start praying, God's angels and divine power will intervene because you are the victim of a hateful person.

A life that is based on the Word of God and applying the Word of God will stand the test of time. Life is stormy, but if you live a life based on LOVE, you will stand through any storm. You will grow stronger and stronger.
